FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SHINGLE SPRINGS COMMUNITY ALLIANCE WEIGHING POSITION ON NEW MEASURE Y INITIATIVE

SHINGLE SPRINGS, California (September 11, 2013)

Representatives from Shingle Springs Community Alliance/No San Stino/Stop Tilden Park (SSCA/NSS/STP) were invited to attend the Rural Communities United meetings regarding a new Measure Y initiative. Our shared concerns with other community groups are that the county is not following the requirements of Measure Y. Measure Y is the voter approved initiative that was intended to provide protection against traffic gridlock. We are still weighing our position in regards to the new ballot measure because it has not been finalized . For SSCA/NSS/STP the most serious issues are: enforcement of voter approved Measure Y; early denial of projects requiring a General Plan Amendment; the removal of the Shingle Springs Community Region Line (urban boundary line); the county moving forward with any Environmental Impact Report that will further any type of increased density within the Shingle Springs Community Region Line;

and enforcement of many other standards and requirements for rural protections already in existence. We will endorse an updated Measure Y initiative if it prevents traffic gridlock and protects the rural character of our county and not further the growth in El Dorado County for special interests.
