ACTION ALERT! Tilden Park Project

Dear Shingle Springs residents and rural lifestyle supporters,

Please immediately contact the Planning Department to request that the proposed Tilden Park project Notice of Preparation (NOP) deadline (December 15, 2018) and Open House (November 28, 2018) be rescheduled to sometime in January 2019. The proposed Tilden Park project has the potential to dramatically increase traffic at the Ponderosa Interchange. To start a process for a project of this magnitude during the holidays, when residents are focused on friends and family during this time of year, is suspect and gives the appearance that it is intentionally planned at this time to avoid the public’s full attention.

Background:

The proposed Tilden Park project is located off Wild Chaparral Drive, west of the Ponderosa/Highway 50 interchange, and fundamentally the same as it was when it was first introduced in 2011. The applicant is proposing a high-density commercial project on 8.81 acres of land that is in the middle of a medium-density, residential neighborhood (one-acre parcel homes) to include: An 80-room hotel, a 3,800-square foot restaurant, a 20,000-square foot food mart, 6,500 square feet of shops, and 8,250 square feet of office space, and 3 one-acre residential parcels on 3 acres.

The original Traffic Impact Study projected that this project will add 4,455 daily car trips to the Highway 50 and Ponderosa Road interchange, which is already congested and at unacceptable traffic levels.

Current Status:

The County’s 11-14-18 Supplement Notice of Preparation, including project description and site maps, is available here:

https://edcgov.us/Government/planning/public%20notices/Documents/2018/20181114_Tilden%20Park_NOP.pdf

As explained in the County’s 11-14-18 Supplemental Notice of Preparation (NOP), input regarding the NOP is due on December 15, 2018. The purpose of the Supplemental Notice of Preparation (NOP) is to describe the Tilden Park Project and potential environmental effects in order to allow agencies and interested parties to provide input on the scope and content of the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR).

Additionally, the County has planned an Open House regarding the project:

Wednesday, November 28, 2018, 5:30 pm

El Dorado County Library

345 Fair Lane Court, Placerville

Take Action:

Please immediately contact the Planning Department and your Supervisors to request that they extend the NOP deadline and reschedule the Open House. Feel free to use and customize our sample email below.

Subject: Tilden Park

Dear Evan Mattes, Associate Planner,

I request that you extend the deadline to submit comments for the Tilden Park NOP to January 31, 2019 and reschedule the Open House to a date in mid-January 2019. Additionally, please change the venue of the Open House to a location that is near the project site and the residents who will be most impacted by the project. There are several meeting venues available near the proposed project site.

My request comes from the impression that starting a process for a project of this magnitude during the holidays, when residents are focused on friends and family during this time of year, is suspect and gives the appearance that it is intentionally planned at this time to avoid the public’s full attention.

Let’s give this project the full attention that it deserves and reschedule the NOP deadline and Open House to after the holidays.

Sincerely,
