ACTION ALERT! Sign Ordinance on 7/22/14 BOS Agenda

Post date: Jul 21, 2014 5:16:42 AM

The Sign Ordinance is on the agenda for this Tuesday's Board meeting at 2:00pm. The Board will decide whether or not to move forward with the environmental reports on the new draft of the ordinance.

The new draft is a complete rewrite and was just posted for public review on Friday, July 18. That is not enough time for a thorough reading and thoughtful consideration. Here is the agenda item:

30. 13-0086 Community Development Agency, Long Range Planning,

recommending the Board consider the following:

1) Review revisions made to the draft Sign Ordinance including

proposed reducing dwell time of electronic (digital) signs and signs in

motion from 12 seconds to 8 seconds;

2) Consider revisions to General Plan Objective 2.7.1 and Policy 2.7.1.2

as noted in the draft Resolution of Intention (ROI) to align General Plan

language with state law provisions; and

3) Approve and authorize the Chair to sign Resolution of Intention

106-2014 to Amend the Sign Ordinance and authorize staff to proceed

with the preparation of all necessary documentation and environmental

review pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act.

Subject: Comment on 7-22-14 BOS Agenda Item, File #13-0086 Sign Ordinance

Dear Board of Supervisors,

I request that you do not approve and authorize the Chair to sign Resolution of Intention 106-2014 to Amend the Sign Ordinance and authorize staff to proceed with environmental review. The new draft was posted on Friday, July 18, which only gave the public 4 days to review the ordinance. The Sign Ordinance is a critically important document to the county and was completely rewritten instead of slightly edited. The new draft of the ordinance should be processed like a brand new ordinance to give the public time for review. Please start the process of public hearings to receive input.

Thank you,
