Mental Health facilities considered for Shingle Springs

Post date: Aug 9, 2012 11:05:14 PM

The County has confirmed that it is considering moving the Placerville Mental Health facilities. An empty building near Lees' Feed in Shingle Springs is one of the locations being considered. Any decision will be put on the agenda for a Board of Supervisors public hearing for the public to make comment.

If you would like to voice your concerns now rather than waiting for a public hearing, please email them to:

bosone@edcgov.us, bostwo@edcgov.us, bosthree@edcgov.us, bosfour@edcgov.us, bosfive@edcgov.us

Or you can mail them to: Board of Supervisors, 330 Fair Lane, Building A, Placerville, CA 95667

Some concerns that have been brought to our attention are:

  • Inadequate public transportation serving that location.

  • The close proximity to Ponderosa High School, Buckeye Elementary School, Bradford Park, The El Dorado Trail, the railroad depot, and nearby residences.

  • The burden of supporting another public service in addition to the Probation Department which recently opened on Durock Road and the low-income/mental health housing which is currently under construction on Sunset Lane behind Lees' Feed.

  • This type of facility is usually located near medical facilities or government centers with compatible, supportive services.

Please share this information with anyone else that you feel may be concerned about the Mental Health facilities possibly relocating to Shingle Springs.

Reminder: Supervisor Ron Briggs, District IV, represents Shingle Springs north of Highway 50. Supervisor Ray Nutting, District II, represents Shingle Springs south of Highway 50.
